Farnborough Airport has announced plans for a third 16,300 sqm hangar to open in 2024.<\/h1>\n

The expansion project is projected to cost \u00a335 million ($47 million) and will nearly double the available hangar space, adding to the already occupied 20,500 sqm buildings.
\nLocal authorities gave permission to build a new hangar in January, and the airport has now launched a tender with construction contractors to begin construction work in the third quarter. The administration noted that there is currently a waiting list for hangar facilities that are available to operators on year-round contracts, and added that operators are willing to pay more for access to airport hangar facilities during the winter months.
\nFarnborough Airport also plans to increase the number of aircraft stands it offers near its terminal building. They are mainly used by charter operators whose passengers must go through a security check before being able to board their aircraft.
\nThe administration also announced a new partnership with UK-based Vertical Aerospace, which is working to bring a four-seat eVTOL aircraft into commercial service in 2024. The airport and UK developer are exploring options for eVTOL operations from Farnborough Airport, which could include more sustainable and affordable shuttle flights to central London, compared to helicopter transport.<\/p>\n

Last year, Farnborough Airport handled 26,003 flights, almost 60% of the record total in 2019 of 32,366 flights, and a significant increase from 2020 when only 19,952 flights were operated. 90% of flights to and from Farnborough Airport are now short haul flights within Europe.
\nPrivate aircraft currently account for about 45% of total traffic, with corporate and fractional fleets each accounting for 20%, with charter flights accounting for the remaining 15%. The airport’s largest customers are VistaJet, NetJets and Flexjet.
\nThe administration also noted that sales of sustainable jet fuel are gradually increasing despite prices being about 50% higher than those of Jet-A. The airport, which in 2018 became the first business aviation facility to achieve carbon neutrality, is making further environmental investments in new electric ground vehicles and the use of hydrogen-treated plant fuels.<\/p>\n
