UK Department of Transport is considering making mandatory criminal background checks for chauffeurs.<\/h1>\n

This legislation, intended to reduce harassment and violence against women, might be implemented within the next three years. According to a study commissioned by the Ministry, 49% of British women do not feel safe in public transport, and 46% have witnessed verbal aggression against another woman. As a solution to the problem, experts recommend using the data of the Disclosure & Barring Service, which allows employers to check applicants for criminal records and other warnings and prohibitions issued by the court.
