London Stansted Airport has a \u00a370 million luggage system that is ready to go.<\/h1>\n

Stansted Airport has completed a four-year project to upgrade its \u00a370 million luggage system. The project is the terminal’s biggest refurbishment since it opened in 1991. The old conveyor belts and conveyors were replaced with 2.4 km (1.5 miles) of track and 180 automated carts.
\nThe system is designed by airport luggage experts Beumer Group. It is a completely automated system with new low-energy, faster and more efficient than its previous. It is the longest system of its type in the world, and at speeds of up to five metres per second (18 kmph), luggage will take roughly six minutes to travel from check-in to being ready to load onto an aircraft.<\/p>\n

The Beumer autover\u00ae system uses the latest digital technology which will futureproof London Stansted’s baggage operation for years to come, improving performance for both our passengers and airlines.”

“The integration of an end-to-end baggage handling system not only allows Stansted Airport to grow and service their airline customers and passengers, but it also places Stansted in the league of modern airports known for operating with a very efficient baggage handling design to increase baggage traceability and security at every stage of the handling process.”
\nThe project also involves connecting the system to a new check-in area that opened in 2019 and installing high-tech baggage scanners, which are now needed by EU laws. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the airport was able to speed up the project and finish it ahead of time.<\/p>\n
