Ivan Aivazovsky\u2019s painting “The Gulf of Naples” was sold at Sotheby’s in London for a record amount for online trading – 2.3 million pounds, the press service of the auction house.<\/p>\n

“During the bidding, the cost of the monumental canvas by Ivan Aivazovsky” Gulf of Naples “soared to 2.3 million pounds, doubling the estimate (800 thousand – 1.2 million pounds), and broke the record set by Giorgio Morandi’s Still Life painting last week, becoming the most expensive painting sold at online bidding, “the report said.<\/p>\n

Sotheby’s did not specify which country the buyer was from. Before the sale, the painting was in a European private collection.Sotheby’s planned to sell the picture of Aivazovsky and other lots in the usual format, that is, in the presence of potential buyers, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, it was decided to move online.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Gulf of Naples, other paintings by Russian artists were put up for auction, for which a total of 5.6 million pounds was raised.<\/h2>\n
