The Royal Mint will release a collection with a facsimile of Elizabeth II
In honor of Her Majesty’s platinum jubilee, the Queen’s signature will be engraved on the coins instead of the Queen’s profile for the first time, according to The Telegraph. The signature “Elisabeth R”, which has been featured on postcards and official documents for decades, will appear on the £5 coin series.
Designed by Irish illustrator PJ Lynch. “I thought about how important her hands are: she shakes hands with other people at meetings, gives awards, plants trees,” he said. “That’s how she communicates with hundreds, if not thousands of people at the same time.” This observation, according to Lynch, led him to believe that the royal signature was not only a state symbol, but also reflected the monarch’s commitment to her people.
According to representatives of the Royal Mint, the series includes three types of coins with different designs. The first displays the Queen’s awards, the second is dedicated to her work with charities, the third – to the Commonwealth of Nations. You can buy the anniversary collection on the official website of the Mint. Prices range from £13 (plain coin) to £2,865 (gold coin).
