Embraer’s Next-Generation Jet, Powered by SAF, is the largest aircraft to land in London City
Embraer recently unveiled the E195-E2, their next-generation aircraft with a TechLion livery in black and gold. Following its participation in the Farnborough Airshow, the aircraft made its inaugural landing at London City Airport (LCY), confirming its performance and fuel economy.
The E195-E2 is now the biggest airplane to land at LCY. It was debuted as one of the largest single-aisle aircraft today, with a 35-meter (114.8-foot) wingspan and 146-seat configuration, as well as the most fuel-efficient in its category.
When compared to prior generation planes, it has 30% reduced CO2 emissions per seat and a 25% total reduction in CO2 emissions. It doesn’t end there. That proportion rises to 85 percent when using 100 percent SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
Embraer’s new plane was powered by a 39 percent SAF mix during its first landing at LCY. On the way to certification later this year, it also proved its steep approach capabilities. Steep approaches are defined by the angle at which an aircraft prepares to land, which is larger than four and a half degrees, with angles somewhat greater than three degrees considered usual. These steep angles are usually necessary because tall things are located near the airport.
There are just a few airports in Europe that need a steep angle approach, and LCY is the only one in the United Kingdom.
That is why this enormous aircraft successfully demonstrated a steep angle approach, which was also partially powered by SAF. According to Embraer, the E195-E2 was greeted with a traditional water salute by LCY’s fire department.
It will soon become the biggest aircraft to operate from this airport, with final certification just around the horizon. As a new-generation aircraft, it is designed to transport more passengers while still providing unparalleled environmental performance.
An E195-E2 accomplished a 70-minute flight powered by SAF in its GTF engines earlier this month.
