After a £100 million renovation, the Jumeirah Group’s flagship hotel in the UK will reopen in June.
For the past 18 months, the Carlton Tower Jumeirah in Knightsbridge has been closed. The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, the Jumeirah Group’s flagship hotel in Europe, will reopen on June 1 after an extensive 18-month refurbishment.
It is one of three hotels operated by the Dubai-based group in London, and one of only a few in Europe, and is located in the posh Knightsbridge neighborhood. According to Jumeirah, the 17-story hotel has been completely renovated, including a new foyer and reception area, as well as additional guest rooms and suites.
Henry End, who also designed the interiors of Manhattan’s iconic Plaza Hotel, created the hotel’s initial design. Design studio 1508 London has been engaged for the hotel’s most recent and significant renovation. The design team has added smooth curved edges, and organic inspired forms to the mix of architecture of the neighboring mansion blocks and houses.
Because the facility will now offer larger accommodations, the number of keys has been lowered from 216 to 186. A new health club and spa, Al Mare Restaurant, lobby bar, ballroom, and meeting rooms will all be available. The renovation has cost the company more than £100 million in total.
The hotel first established in 1961, next to Harrods, and was run by the Hotel Corporation of America at the time. In 1982, it was sold to Hyatt, and for the next 20 years, it was known as the Hyatt Carlton Tower. When Hyatt’s management contract expired in 2001, Jumeirah Group took over the hotel and renamed it as its own.
“We are thrilled to welcome back our valued guests following a significant investment and a complete renovation of the hotel, with new rooms, restaurant offerings, spa and lobby entrance. This landmark opening is set against the backdrop of a pandemic, which has seen the world and our beloved industry face extreme difficulty. The Carlton Tower Jumeirah will be a beacon of hope during a very difficult time for us all. We will once more be the place to be seen, a cornerstone for the local London community, as well as a leader of luxury hospitality in the world”, said by Aaron Kaupp general manager of The Carlton Tower Jumeirah.
