The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is increasing its footprint in London this winter with the introduction of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London.
The new resort is a discrete, sleek, and intimate sister property to the award-winning Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, located on historic Hanover Square in the heart of London’s most elegant areas, where fashion, media, art, and business mix.
The resort has 50 bedrooms and 78 private apartments, providing hotel guests and residents with an oasis of peace and Mandarin Oriental’s famed service, as well as a dynamic ambiance in the public spaces. It will house the first Akira Back restaurant in the UK, as well as Chef Akira Back’s ‘ABar Lounge’ concept. There will also be an urban spa focusing on regeneration and rebalancing.
Interior Design and Decoration
Given its location on the corner of Mayfair’s oldest square, the building’s architecture has a rich historic setting, designed by globally famous Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners (the team behind the Lloyd’s building and the ‘Cheesegrater’ in London, as well as the Pompidou Center in Paris).
The interior of the hotel’s public areas was inspired by a strong feeling of location and was produced by Tokyo-based company, Curiosity, who based their idea on a “center of nature and art.” As a nod to the hotel’s cultural and artistic surroundings, artworks by popular British artists are displayed around the property, along with one-of-a-kind furniture items handpicked by Curiosity’s creator, Gwenael Nicolas.
The 50 bedrooms and suites were designed by UK-based Studio Indigo, and include a British style inspired by the hotel’s renowned position in the center of London, as well as elements reflecting the Group’s oriental background.
Restaurants and Bars
At Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, chef Akira Back makes his UK debut. Chef Akira Back, who was born in Korea and reared in Aspen, Colorado, lends a spirit of adventure and infinite inventiveness to his culinary creations. The Akira Back brand is a diversified portfolio of over 20 restaurants and lounges throughout the world that take pleasure in offering creative culinary experiences that are also convivial and classy. The goal statement is to provide visitors with unique experiences by reinventing the dining experience with one-of-a-kind meals and polite service.
Wellness
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will offer magnificent calm in the heart of Mayfair, providing the perfect antidote to the hectic pace of London life for hotel guests, residents, and the surrounding community. The total spa includes an indoor 25-meter swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool, relaxation area, and a plethora of specialized wellness treatments that one would expect from a Mandarin Oriental spa.
Regarding Mandarin Oriental London’s Mayfair
Within walking distance of London’s acclaimed fashion houses on Bond Street and Saville Row, as well as auction houses and art galleries, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will give a sophisticated base in one of the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods, where culture and fashion mix. The new hotel will take advantage of its world-class position by providing guests and MO Fans with exclusive access and experiences ranging from high fashion to art, culture, and food. In London, where the most significant sectors are claimed by Knightsbridge and Mayfair, the Mandarin Oriental brand will now connect these two places on the map. For tourists and residents who have already fallen in love with Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in Knightsbridge, there is now an extra way to enjoy Mandarin Oriental, inspired by the vitality and originality of its new surroundings.
Clivedale London, an independent Mayfair-based developer focused on constructing super-prime property in London, W1, created and owns the total project, which includes Mandarin Oriental Mayfair and the 79 Residences at Mandarin Oriental.
