London’s RAF Northolt airport to be made more attractive for business aviation

The Royal Air Force is extending London RAF Northolt Airport (RAF/EGWU) hours of operation to seven days a week starting June 1, 2022, making the airport open on weekends for the first time in five years.
“We thank the Royal Air Force for this change, which is a huge win for Northolt and business jet operators flying to London,” said Sean Raftery, regional managing director at Universal Aviation.
“The airport is already extremely popular. Business jet operators love the level of service and safety that Universal Aviation provides, combined with the airport’s ease of congestion, privacy, and most importantly, its convenient location. The ability to fly over the weekend will certainly make Northolt Airport a more attractive option for accessing London.”
RAF Northolt is the nearest airport to central London (19.8 km and 32 minutes drive to Hyde Park versus 63 km and an hour to Farnborough Airport). It is also close to many of London’s stadiums that host major international sporting events including Wembley (14km), Twickenham (18km), Wimbledon (25km), Emirates Stadium (27km) and Tottenham (30km).

New Northolt Weekend Hours: Saturday 08:00 to 15:00, Sunday 12:00 to 19:00.
“Consider if two people leave the same Hyde Park hotel at the same time, one of them will fly from Northolt Airport to Paris before the other one even arrives at Farnborough Airport,” Raftery said.
This is the second time Northolt has extended opening hours since Universal Aviation UK took over GAT in January 2021. In mid-2021, Universal Aviation UK – London Northolt worked closely with the RAF to test a three-hour increase in airport hours from Monday to Friday.
