Flights between London City Airport and Zurich are again operating.

As the hub prepares to resume international traffic, flights from London City Airport to Switzerland have resumed. Passengers can fly to Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, from the Royal Docks hub.
Swiss International Air Lines is initially operating two rotations every week, but the timetable is projected to expand as lockdown limitations are lifted, for leisure and business travel. London City Airport’s head of aviation, Anne Doyere, said: “We are delighted Swiss has returned to the airport to restore an important business and leisure connection between London City and Zurich. Zurich is a key centre for international business, finance and tourism, so this is very positive news for our passengers.”

The airport anticipates that as the UK’s vaccination campaign proceeds and foreign travel restrictions are eased more in the coming weeks, more travellers will return to travelling to European destinations. Swiss has announced that as leisure and corporate travel increases, it would increase its routes and timetables from the hub. In August, the Swiss national carrier plans to resume service between London City and Geneva.
The announcement comes as international travel to and from the UK prepares to resume on Monday, May 17. Due to shutdown limitations, the airport’s flight schedule has been drastically decreased in recent months. The testing and quarantine measures that passengers must follow will be determined by a traffic light system.

Switzerland has been classified as an amber country. Travelers from England will be required to complete a pre-departure test as well as further examinations on days two and eight of their return journey. Unless exempt, they will also be required to self-isolate at home for 10 days.
According to London City, Zurich was the airport’s fourth most popular route in 2019, with around 430,000 passengers flying between the two hubs. Swiss’ chief commercial officer, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, said: “We are very pleased to resume connections from Zurich and Geneva to London City. Its proximity to the city centre and convenient size with short distances make London City Airport equally attractive for our business and leisure travelers.”
