Paddington Bear coming to British Library for a new exhibition.

A new exhibition about Paddington Bear is opening at the British Library. Memorabilia from photographs to first editions will go on display in the show dedicated to the marmalade sandwich eating star of page and screen. Paddington: The Story of a Bear (9 July – 31 October 2021).
Some of the exhibits will be loaned to the library by the family of novelist Michael Bond, who founded Paddington in 1958 after witnessing a lonely teddy bear on a shelf at a shop near West London station.

Organizer, Alison Bailey said: “Paddington: The Story of a Bear is a fun, family-friendly exhibition recalling the many faces of Paddington we’ve come to know and love in original artwork, books, and scenes from TV and film adaptations.
“This exhibition reminds us why, over 60 years on from his creation, Paddington still resonates with people of all ages, wherever they are in the world. We hope visitors enjoy following this loveable bear on his adventures and discovering his stories.”
Bond died in 2017 at the age of 91, but his invention, a small Peru bear with a battered luggage, a distinctive blue duffle coat, and a love for marmalade, is still as popular as ever.
Since his origin, the character has appeared in two popular films, featuring actor Ben Whishaw as the bear’s voice. Paddington has also appeared on coins, with the Royal Mint producing a series of 50 pence designs showing him visiting various London attractions.
Karen Jankel, Bond’s daughter, recently spoke of her father’s “lovely” legacy, claiming that people left small bears on his gravestone.
