Posted on April 1, 2022 by John Swardson
h1 style=”font-size:2em; text-transform: capitalize; line-height: 1em; text-size: 31px;”>This year marks the centennial of Ten Trinity Square, which is located within the Four Seasons Hotel London. The historic site has long been recognized as one of the best architectural landmarks in the United Kingdom. This Grade II listed structure, which currently houses the Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, has introduced guided walking tours for both in-house and external visitors. The group tours will only be offered this year. The hillside where Ten Trinity Square currently sits was originally inhabited almost 2,000 years ago by the Romans, who built the village of Londinium—the ancient city core around which the capital has

New design of the London Euston station

Posted on March 30, 2022 by John Swardson
New design of the London Euston station on the HS2 high-speed line has been unveiled. HS2 has unveiled a concept for a redesigned London-Southstone station on the high-speed line. The concept, developed by a consortium consisting of Arup, WSP and Grimshaw Architects, differs from the one presented in 2015 with less complexity – the station with a reduced number of platforms from 11 to 10 can be built in one stage with minimal inconvenience to passengers and city residents. The three-level station will have 10 underground platforms with a length of 450 m, ensuring the passage of up to 17 high-speed trains per hour. The 300 m long ground concourse is proposed

The cat named after Queen Elizabeth II lives in The Lanesborough

Posted on March 24, 2022 by John Swardson
Lilibet: The cat named after Queen Elizabeth II lives a life that most people can only dream of. A Siberian cat has been enjoying our greatest desires and is possibly the world’s most opulent feline. Little Lilibet, who turns three in March, was named after her royal neighbor the Queen and resides in a five-star hotel that is apparently larger than Buckingham Palace. The cat is wandering around the Lanesborough hotel on London’s Hyde Park corner, which has rooms that cost more than £27,000 per night. Lilibet’s stay, on the other hand, is absolutely free because Oetker Collection Hotels snatched her up like just a kitten from an English breeder. Посмотреть эту

International Taxi Day 2022

Posted on March 22, 2022 by John Swardson
March 22, taxi drivers around the world celebrate their professional holiday – International Taxi Driver Day. It was on this day in 1907 that the first cars equipped with special meters appeared on the streets of London. London cabbies called the counter “taximeter” – from the French “tax” (“fee”), and the Greek “metron” (“measurement”). Since then, individual urban transport began to be called taxis, and cabbies – taxi drivers. In 1907, motorized “cabs” with meters, now called “taximeters”, in London became the first taxis in their modern sense. The first London taxi cars were green and red. The yellow color that we consider traditional for these machines came about with the light

London chauffeurs will be checked for a criminal record

Posted on March 22, 2022 by John Swardson
UK Department of Transport is considering making mandatory criminal background checks for chauffeurs. This legislation, intended to reduce harassment and violence against women, might be implemented within the next three years. According to a study commissioned by the Ministry, 49% of British women do not feel safe in public transport, and 46% have witnessed verbal aggression against another woman. At the same time, the UK loses 3.7% of GDP annually due to the fact that women are afraid to get a job that will require them to use public transport. “Our transportation system needs to work for the benefit of the entire population, including the most vulnerable groups,” said Junior Transportation Secretary
